4 months old!

Where has the time gone? Our little baby is not longer a newborn!  Although I have to say I am enjoying this stage so much more than the newborn stage.  It is so much fun to see her interacting with her environment and learning to play with toys.  Plus it makes her easier to distract, which means she is a happier baby!  Yay for that!

Kaylee recently had her 4 month check up.  She weighs 13.5 lbs (50th percentile) and is 25 inches long (75-90th percentile).  She did really well getting her vaccinations, but definitely felt the effects later on.  A little crabby and unhappy.

Our first Thanksgiving was a lot of fun - my parents joined Lance's family for dinner.  I was so happy to have everyone in the same place.  No decisions or splitting up our time.  We let Kaylee try some gravy, mashed potatoes and pumpkin pie.  She really wasn't too sure about any of it!  Here are some links to the videos:

Kaylee Tries Pie
Kaylee Tries Mashed Potatoes/Gravy

(I promise there will won't be hundreds of these as Kaylee has her first rice cereal/fruit/vegetable/couscous/pizza.  Or at least that's what I promised my cousin.  HAHA)

We're finally finishing up the house projects in an effort to look like we live like adults and not college students.  We have acquired some new bookcases/furniture and are in the process of decluttering.  We're also FINALLY finishing off the bathroom from our remodel in March.  Ha!  Pictures to come once we finish up.  We'll have some nice "before and after" shots for the bathroom.

Kaylee's First Snow.

We're looking forward December - so much fun stuff planned!  Lance's dad and stepmom, sister, brother in law and niece are all arriving Dec. 18th.  The grandparents are meeting their granddaughters for the first time and everyone is meeting Kaylee!  We are also really looking forward to decorating for Kaylee's first Christmas.  I tried not to go overboard with presents, but it is hard!

Kaylee's First Halloween

Halloween Party at our friend's house in Bellingham.  Kaylee was great - she slept the whole way there and back and we managed to put her down to sleep at Niki's house too!  Success!  Kaylee had fun checking out all the different looks and meeting a baby Yoda!

Kaylee wishing everyone a Happy Halloween!!

Daddy had fun posing her with pumpkins.  Lucky baby!

Halloween is sure is fun, but so exhausting!

3 months old already!

These fingers are delicious!
Well, Kaylee is no longer a newborn.  She's so grown up - sniff!  And she has been growing and learning a lot of new things.  She can grasp toys, see herself in a mirror, track objects, smile, coo, sleep in her bassinet, hold her bottle (sometimes) and enjoy simple books.

She has also been enjoying her baby yoga.  We just completed our first series on last Tuesday, but have already signed up for another session!  Kaylee got a little certificate for completing her yoga class series that says "Kaylee and her mom, Shannon, started practicing Itsy Bitsy Yoga when she was 7 weeks old". How cute is that?

Kaylee has also graduated from the 0-3 month old parent/baby class we attend at Evergreen Hospital.  We are now in the 3-6 month class!  We've met a lot of other moms and usually hang out once a week.  Kaylee will have a lot of little friends!

School has been going well for me...it is so interesting being back in school 7 years after completing my schooling at the UW.  My perspective is completely different and maturity definitely changes things.  But I am really enjoying it and doing well!  Whew!

Lance has been really busy with work and being a great dad.  He is so great with Kaylee and very helpful with her.  I couldn't ask for a better husband!

2 Months Old!!

So hard to believe our little baby is 2 months old now!  We just had our 2 month doctor appointment and after a slow start to gaining weight, we are happy to say she is now 10 lbs 4 oz!  That is about a 3 1/2 pound weight gain in a month.  Good job baby!  She is now 22.5 inches long.  So her height and head circumference is in the 50-75% percentile and her weight is in the 25-50% percentile.  The doctor says she will be well portioned.  Its all we can ask, really. :)  The doctor also confirmed that we were correct in bragging how well Kaylee holds her head up.  She is such a strong little thing.  She definitely did not get that from Mommy!!

I've started school and managed to make it through the first two weeks relatively unscathed. So far it hasn't been too bad, but I definitely have to stay on top of my homework since Kaylee doesn't let me get a lot done during the day.  My classes for this quarter are: Network Basics, Database Theory and Intermediate Algebra.  Woo!  :)  It is pretty awesome to be taking a math class I did in 8th grade, but I kind of enjoying it.  Math and I are working on being friends after a rough beginning.  While I am at school, Kaylee gets to hang out with her grandmas...I think all parties are enjoying the arrangement.

Kaylee also started "Itsy Bitsy Baby Yoga".  She seems to really enjoy it...we do little baby yoga poses and sing songs.  After yoga, we go to our baby/parent class and hang out with other moms and their 0-3 month old babies.  We get to talk about our concerns and find out what is working for other moms.  Kaylee...tolerates this class.  We have also been getting together for coffee with some of the moms from the classes.  That has been a lot of fun as well.  It gets me out of the house, which is awesome.

Kaylee is really starting to come out of her shell.  She is smiling now.  It isn't really often, but a few times a day at least.  She is cooing too, which is so funny and cute!  Every day she becomes more and more aware of her surroundings.  And I am so excited for that!  I want to play with all these toys with her and have her react to them.

Hi Mommy!  I'm 2 months old today!

I'm not sure how I feel about this Bumbo chair

6 Weeks!!

Hello!  Welcome to my update!
Well, we have certainly had an eventful 5 weeks since our last post!  We have attended 4 birthday parties, one family get together, a wedding, and met lots and lots of people.  We had our second doctor appointment, got our second vaccination, got babysat several times, and had our first bottle.  We also went on our first vacation and Daddy went back to work!  Can you blame Mommy for being exhausted??  I am definitely ready for a slow down.  There is nothing like having a baby to make you realize how busy your life is!

I don't know about this...
Our biggest issue came when we went to the one month doctor appointment.   We found out that Kaylee was not gaining weight.  She was born 7 lbs 2 oz, went down to 6 lbs 8 oz four days later, went back up to 6 lbs 13 oz one week later and was on track to gain weight correctly.  However, when we went in for our appointment she was only 6 lbs 15 oz.  She should have gained about a pound and a half.  So we had to supplement her with formula because I couldn't produce enough to supplement her with my milk.  And we had to visit the lactation consultants a couple times to make sure she was feeding correctly and to help increase my supply.  The good news is she is back on track!  She was 8lbs 5oz as of the 6th!  It is amazing how quickly they can pack on the pounds.  And she is a MUCH happier baby...not nearly as fussy!  So good news all around.  Right now we are continuing a combination of formula and breastmilk.  And it is working well so we will likely continue unless or until I can pump enough to take her off the formula.  But it is also possible that won't happen, so I'm not spending any time feeling guilty or worrying about it.  It is what it is!

My First Ferry Ride...I'm super thrilled, can't you tell?
The next big adventure was a trip to Lopez Island with my parents.  A little background for those who don't know:  my family owns a couple of cabins right on the beach on Hunter Bay.  They have been in the family for a LONG time...I can't remember the exact amount, at least since the Depression when it was owned by my great great aunt.  My mom took me to Lopez for the first time when I was 6 weeks old and so I really wanted to take Kaylee this summer as well.  She is now the 5th generation to enjoy Lopez! It was a really great trip.  The weather was really nice and I was so ready for a getaway.  No house to clean, or places to go!   Just the family.  I felt like I finally got a chance to enjoy my baby instead of just taking care of her.

Lopez is great Dad!
So now it is September and summer is over...Lance has headed back to work this week.  We've only had two days by ourselves, so we'll see how it goes!  I start school in two weeks and that is when things will get really interesting.  :)  But I am excited to start.  Also, Kaylee and I are attending baby/parent support classes and will start Itsy Bitsy Baby Yoga in a couple weeks as well!  I'm more excited than she is, but of course about the only thing that excites her now is food!  HAHA!

One Week Old!

It is hard to imagine that just one week ago Kaylee was just born.   And it is hard to imagine a life without her now!

Kaylee had her first pediatrician appointment today and received good marks all around.  She is gaining weight very well and is very healthy.  Poor little thing had to get her 2nd PKU test today.  She managed to sleep through the first one (and so did Lance for that matter!).  But she was awake and hungry this time!  They let us feed her while getting the test done so she didn't really cry, which I hope to make my new strategy for vaccinations.

Kaylee also attended her first birthday party on Sunday.  Our friend's little boy turned one so Kaylee was there to celebrate.  Well, more like sleep through the celebrating.  But she was there in spirit.  It was nice to have a reason to shower, put on makeup and wear something other than sweats.  Otherwise the days and nights all meld into one.  We really have no concept of time right now!

We've been managing sleep fairly well.  Kaylee has a "special" time of night that I like to refer to as the Witching Hour when our seemingly sweet well behaved baby turns into a screaming angry changeling.  This is usually from 2am to 4am.  Lucky us!  But Lance is amazing with her and usually takes on the little monster while letting me sleep.  Lance has been an amazing dad all around.  He is incredibly hands on and always there to help or step in.  Which is I appreciate more than anything.  Nursing has been going really well, but it is nice to have someone there to help.  And Lance looks so cute when he shows her off.  He is one proud papa!

The dog and cat have done well too...mostly they are pretty oblivious to her.  Chiquita likes Kaylee's Boppy pillows (U shaped nursing pillows).  She thinks they are perfect puppy pillows!  I think Chiquita is mostly bored because all mom and dad do is sleep and sit around with the baby!

Kaylee Arrives!

Well, we made it!  After 39 weeks of pregnancy, Kaylee Summer made her grand entrance into the world.  We had a long labor, but a quick delivery!  It is hard to believe that she is actually here and we are officially "Mommy" and "Daddy" now.  Everyone is doing very well...Kaylee is healthy as can be and I am recovering well.  Lance is loving cuddling with his daughter.  The dog and cat have been fairly oblivious to the baby, but I have a feeling they aren't super impressed.  :)

Below is our birth story...it is fairly long just as a warning!

On Friday July 23rd I went into my acupuncture appointment for an induction series.  I was hoping to perhaps “help” things along since my last doctor’s appointment did not show any changes.  The acupuncture for induction doesn’t necessarily make you go into labor, but it is supposed to help “ripen” the body.
I woke up with some contractions early Saturday morning, but they stopped after a couple hours so I was happy that there now seemed to be some progress.  We went about the rest of the day as normal, but around 11pm I started having contractions again.  When they became more regular and were 1-1 ½ long, 5 minutes apart for about an hour we called the hospital to see if we should come in or not.  The nurse asked if I could talk during the contractions (no) and whether my water had broke (again no).  She said we should probably come in and get checked out.  We got to the hospital about 2:40am and I was checked into triage.  They monitored my contractions for awhile but by this point they were starting to become more irregular and I was only dilated about 1 1/2 centimeters.  They advised that we should probably go home for awhile especially if I wanted to try for a natural birth because they would be more likely to “do things to me” if I stayed.  I was instructed to wait until the contractions were again 1-1 1/2 minutes long, 3-5 minutes apart or if my water broke.
We got back home around 4:30am and I took a warm bath and got some sleep.  But for the rest of Saturday I was still experiencing contractions.  They never really changed and always remained the same as the night before.  My hypnobirth classes really helped during this time.  I focused on remaining relaxed and calm.  I tried not to tense up while experiencing the contractions and to focus on breathing through them.  I trusted in my body and to do what I thought it needed at the time.  I basically just wanted to sit in Lance’s lazy boy chair with a hot pad on my back for the back labor pain and be in a quiet space.  I was actually able to sleep quite a bit.  I would sleep, wake up for a contraction, breath through it and then fall back asleep.  I was actually doing pretty well.  I could usually “get ahead” of the contractions and start my breathing before they crested and manage the pain pretty well. We spent 20 hours doing this! The contractions just never became more intense or closer together until about 11pm Sunday night.
Finally when the contractions were just starting to get more intense and a little closer together, we called the hospital again at 12am to see if we should come back.  We didn’t know if we should be concerned that it was taking so long or what we should do really.  They said we could come back in and get rechecked.  Pretty as soon as Lance got off the phone, the contractions became incredibly intense and painful and were not stopping.  Looking back, I see that I went into “transition”, but at the time I had no idea what was happening.  I was having a much harder time breathing through the pain and having to move to go to the hospital made it all the more difficult because I couldn’t distraction myself very well.  We took about 40 minutes to make a ten minute drive because I was having so many contractions that I couldn’t get to the car!  At this point, I was really worried that they were going to tell me that I was only 4 cm dilated and I had hours and hours to go.  I told Lance that I wanted some pain medication because I didn’t think I could make it through the contractions for that long.  We got to the hospital and I had to have them bring me a wheelchair because I couldn’t make it down the hall.  I could barely change into the gown or move or anything really.  Finally they got me into triage and I was able to calm myself a bit and start to breath through the contractions again and manage the pain better.  I told them I needed “drugs” and they asked me if I would want an epidural and I emphatically said no.  I was just really worried I would be stuck here forever which is why I even thought I wanted the pain medication.  They checked me and I was 7 cm dilated.  I could have cried I was so relieved.  At this point my water broke (at 1:20am) and they told me I just bought myself an overnight stay.
They moved me from triage to my room (which I barely remember) and hooked up the monitors.  They started to prep me for an IV but were having trouble getting my veins to pop out.  And all the sudden I had this urge to push.  At this point, I just let my body take over.  I am even really sure who was where and what was going on around me.  I DID remember to breath through each push and to remain relaxed.  All the time, that was what I was focused on…breathing out and not tensing up.  The nurses noticed I was pushing and asked me if I was feeling the urge.  I told them yes and they said, “just do small pushes…lets get the doctor here.”  I remember thinking “what the hell is a small push?!”  They checked me again and I said I was fully dilated and effaced.  I thought “yay, maybe now they won’t insist on small pushes”.  I opened my eyes at one point and saw Dr. Morrell had arrived and was sitting on the couch reading my chart.  I thought “um, don’t you want to be where all the drama is?”  I pushed a couple more times and the nurse put up the stirrups so I knew I had to be close.  A couple more pushes and Dr. Morrell said to open my eyes and look down.  And holy!  There was my baby!  Dr. Morrell said to reach down and take her and I just kind of stared at her…it was so surreal.  Finally I put my hands on her and brought her up to my chest.  She was born 49 minutes after my water broke.  I had really expected the whole “ring of fire” experience but I didn’t find it hurt that much.  And I only tore a little bit, so that was a relief as well.
I could hear that my mom, Lance’s mom and sister and my friend Stefany had arrived.  I asked the nurses if Lance could hold her because I knew that he was dying to hold her.  They let him take her out to meet everyone while I got stitched up and cleaned up.  The nurses and doctor kept complimenting me on how well I did and how “in control” I was.  I hadn’t thought I was that in control, but looking back I think I had a better handle on it that I previously thought.  The hypnobirthing training was probably my saving grace because I learned to keep relaxed, calm, unafraid and to trust in my body’s ability to deliver my baby.
I also have to say that Lance was absolutely amazing through the whole thing.  He was always very attentive and for the most part gave me a lot of space but was always right there when I needed something.  And he especially great once I hit transition because he was always there, holding my hand which really seemed to ground me and help keep me focused and breathing.  And the few times I forgot to breath, he would just say “breathe, remember breathe”.  He seemed to be able to intuitively know what I needed.

38 Weeks and What Do You Get?

A whole lotta nothin!

But that's ok...Kaylee isn't quite ready to make she grand entrance so we patiently wait. But now that I am so close my motivation to be really active has gone down the drain. We are just in the hurry up and wait mode and I'm perfectly happy waiting on the couch. I seriously don't know how women used to work in the field when they were 9 months pregnant. Good lord...cleaning the kitchen wears me out!

So I spend an ungodly amount of time online. I made my peace with it so I don't even feel guilty about it. But Facebook, email and trashy gossip sites only can entertain one for so long. I was in need of a hobby and preferably the laziest (and cheapest) hobby I could find. And boy did that rule out a lot of ideas! Goodbye baking! Too hot anyways. Goodbye sewing! I don't even own a sewing machine anyways. Goodbye competitive poodle grooming! I'm crazy...but not THAT crazy.

So I have recently stumbled upon my new obsession. Giveaways and Freebies! Now before you say, "wait...I thought you weren't THAT crazy" let me say that I have a few caveats. I haven't turned into that stay at home mom with the crazy gleam in her eye as she obsessively and compulsively enters Sweepstakes, clips coupons for products she doesn't use and has a closet full of freebies of vitamins and tampons. I only sent away for Freebies I would actually use...for example I got a free bag of Nurtura dog food that I plan to donate to the Humane Society. The giveaways are even more fun...there are SO many "Mommy" sites that get products to review and then have an extra to giveaway to people that read their blog. It takes me 5 minutes, I don't have to sign up for anything and these blogs are run by stay at home moms that keep their eyes out for fun new products. I haven't won anything....yet. Remember positive thoughts beget positive results. :)

37 Weeks - the official countdown begins!

Well folks we made it to full term and little Kaylee can arrive at any time! We've taken all of our prenatal classes, we've finished the room (see pics), and we've packed our bag for the hospital and installed the car seat. Now....we wait - haha!

I had a doctor's appointment on Tuesday and there hasn't been a change. Which is ok with me. I am happy any time she decides to come, although I would like to make it past Lance's birthday on the 19th so it is probably a good thing there hasn't been any progress.

My round ligament pain has abated luckily so I've turned into a much happier person. I was getting pretty whiny about it...but really, is that pain necessary? No. :)

My appetite has definitely increased...just when I think I've had my fill, I just have to wait an hour and then I can start all over. It is pretty amazing actually!

Tune in next week! I'll be starting my "induction" acupuncture series, so it will interesting to see what (if any) progress comes of that.

Weird Preggo Stuff
: The amount of pain you can be in one day, but not the next. Stupid ligaments.

Mind Blowing Thought of the Week
: Baby could come any time!

What I miss: Being able to walk without a waddle.

What is exciting
: How excited Lance is getting. He is going to be such a good daddy. He said "Hello Daughter" to my tummy the other day...melted my heart.

Upcoming Events: Acupuncture...staying busy...playing in the baby's room :)

36 Weeks!

So here we are in the last month...it is so hard to believe that Kaylee could come at any time. Granted I have a few weeks to go...but you never know! We have been busy busy busy getting everything ready. The baby's room is thisclose to being done! All the clothes and bedding are washed, everything is unwrapped, and all essential items are purchased. I am just waiting for a couple things to arrive in the mail and I PROMISE pictures!!

I have been feeling pretty good, but getting around is definitely a challenge. Not only am I slower than a BP oil spill cleanup, but I have been having pretty severe round ligament pain. I find this the most frustrating part because there is a lot I want to do, but I am pretty limited by it. It is hard to nest with stabbing pains! Actually I take it back...the most frustrating thing is there is really nothing I can do about it. But, I have been lucky in that I am sleep well still and while I am tired I feel rested at least. I have managed to avoid a lot of heartburn/indigestion/reflux and my blood pressure is still very good.

I have been experiencing Braxton Hicks contractions and occasionally an actual contraction. Those will stop you in your tracks...I love how they always seem to happen while I am in the middle of making dinner, or in a store. But there has been progress according to my doctor. They didn't expect to find a soft cervix, but the BH contractions are doing their job apparently! I am now on a weekly doctor visit schedule, so stay tuned for cervix progress - lucky people you! Haha!!

What the baby is doing: Your baby is still packing on the pounds — at the rate of about an ounce a day. She now weighs almost 6 pounds (like a crenshaw melon) and is more than 18 1/2 inches long. She's shedding most of the downy covering of hair that covered her body as well as the vernix caseosa, the waxy substance that covered and protected her skin during her nine-month amniotic bath

Weird Preggo Stuff: Braxton Hicks contractions are the strangest sensation. I actually could SEE my belly hardening in the shower the other day. Weird.

Mind Blowing Thought of the Week
: I just bought milk that was dated past my due date. Huh.

What I miss: Having some choice in clothing...it is sad when people realize I am wearing the same thing I wore the last time they saw me.

What is exciting: Finally, finally finally being done with the baby's room...it was a long time coming!!

Upcoming Events: Enjoying the hot weather. I plan to soak in our pool a lot!

35 Weeks!

Welcome Back!

Things have been good with the Naugles...I've been enjoying my time off, although I feel pretty busy! The baby's room is coming together. Lance has almost finished painting the room. We have the furniture set up and have started putting away all of the baby things away. We've been buying the last of the "necessities" this last week so hopefully we should be all ready come next week or so!

I had two wonderful baby showers in the last three weeks as well. The first one was co hosted by my mom and mom-in-law. They had an adorable "Sweet Pea" theme and I was so happy to see everyone who made it! The second shower was hosted by a couple of my mom's very good friends. It was held in their front garden and was so adorable. I feel very blessed to have so many caring people in my life. Kaylee is one lucky baby!! We have been very fortunate and really appreciate all that has been done for us!

My next doctor's appointment is next week...and then we go every week until the baby is born! It won't be long now!!

Weird Preggo Stuff: It is amazing how much your body slows down in the last couple months. I still feel pretty good, but I definitely do not have the energy I once did. People have been asking me if I am ready to be done and to be honest, I've actually enjoyed being pregnant so I'm not at my wit's end yet! But I am VERY much looking forward to meeting our baby.

Mind Blowing Thought of the Week: Lance was relaying a conversation he had with his boss about going on paternity leave in a month...and I was like, "holy carp Batman! We're having a BABY in a MONTH!"

What I miss: My feet looking normal. Right now they look like Cabbage Patch Doll feet. :( And I've had some round ligament pain...I miss not having that!

What is exciting: Going back through the baby presents and putting them away in the baby room. Organzing teeny things is fun!

Upcoming Events: Finishing up the baby's room...pictures to come - I promise!!

32 Weeks!

Well, it is June! Just a couple months to go now. Hard to believe that in 8ish weeks Kaylee will be here!

There has been some big changes for the Naugles. My company closed and my last day of work was June 4th. We only had about two weeks notice, which was weird and awkward. I miss my coworkers...they were a good bunch. So I am off for the summer. Financially we're ok which is the most important thing. I am actually working on going back to school. There are lots of programs available now to help people in declining industries become retrained in industries that are in demand. My hope is that unemployment will approve me to go back to school and continue my unemployment pay while I attend. Otherwise it will be back to the grind for me. So keep me in your thoughts/minds/prayers!

My friend Stef put on a great shower for me a couple weekends ago with all of my friends. It was so much fun and I loved seeing everyone. As I get older, I really appreciate the times when all of your nearest and dearest get together in one place. Live takes people in all different directions and pinning everyone down is hard sometimes. Stef made the amazing diaper cake (as seen above). Thank you Stef for everything! You are going to be a great auntie!! :)

Finally, Lance is done with his class for the quarter so he now he can focus on painting the baby's room and setting up the furniture - yay!! The first coat of paint went up and I love the color. Kind of a light buttery yellow. I'll post pictures as soon as it is put together.

I usually update the blog after I have my doctor's appointment (everything is still textbook by the way)...but now I will have appointments more often! So check back in a couple weeks.

What the baby is doing: By now, your baby weighs 3.75 pounds (pick up a large jicama) and is about 16.7 inches long, taking up a lot of space in your uterus. You're gaining about a pound a week and roughly half of that goes right to your baby. In fact, she'll gain a third to half of her birth weight during the next 7 weeks as she fattens up for survival outside the womb. She now has toenails, fingernails, and real hair (or at least respectable peach fuzz). Her skin is becoming soft and smooth as she plumps up in preparation for birth

Weird Preggo Stuff: The baby has gone from pokes and jabs to rolling and rocking around. Sometimes she has hiccups...and other times she moves so suddenly I get the "rollercoaster" feeling!

Mind Blowing Thought of the Week: All those cute little clothes I got from my shower will eventually be worn by my baby!

What I miss: Being comfy in my bed. I think Lance is going to get really tired of sleeping on the couch with me. :)

What is exciting: Having time during the day to organize and clean. I have a lot more motivate then instead of coming home after being at work all day.

Upcoming Events: My 2nd baby shower this weekend hosted by my mom and mom-in-law. I can't wait!!

28 Weeks!

Hello Again!

Well, we are finally into our third trimester! It's amazing how fast it snuck up!

We finished our labor preparation classes at the end of April. Lance has been practicing his massage techniques for the delivery room...not that I mind! We also took a child and infant CPR class. We hope to never have to use it, but it gives us sound of mind at least!

Kaylee has definitely been increasing her movements. Now I get jabs, kicks, bounces, and punches. I can see the movements from the outside too, which is cool and crazy at the same time. My stomach has been taken over!

I passed my glucose screening with flying colors. The glucola wasn't too bad...it reminded me of those Hawaiian Hi-C drinks...super sugary fake juice. Of course, I had it first thing in the morning on an empty stomach and it took several hours before they could peel me off the ceiling. WHEEE!! My iron levels also checked out - apparently the "best they've ever seen". I don't know how that is, but I'll take it!

Lastly, Lance and I picked up the rest of the furniture for the baby room - a toy chest and changing table. I can't wait until the room is painted and we can set it all up!

What the baby is doing: By this week, your baby weighs two and a quarter pounds (like a Chinese cabbage) and measures 14.8 inches from the top of her head to her heels. She can blink her eyes, which now sport lashes. With her eyesight developing, she may be able to see the light that filters in through your womb. She's also developing billions of neurons in her brain and adding more body fat in preparation for life in the outside world

Weird Preggo Stuff: Suddenly I hit 7 months and I can't get comfy. Sitting, laying, sleeping. I just feel these weird pressures all over. Hopefully I'll come up with a good position for the next couple months.

Mind Blowing Thought of the Week: My coworker was chaperoning her daughter's school field trip and it hit me: WE'RE going to be able to chaperone Kaylee's field trips! It was one of the first moments when I realized that I was going to be a parent. Not just have a baby, but be a MOM.

What I miss: Drinking as much caffeine as I needed or wanted in a day.

What is exciting: The weather is finally getting nice and I feel so much more energetic!

Upcoming Events: My first baby shower! I am really excited!! :)

24 weeks!

Well the bean is now an international traveller. We made it to Europe and back and did pretty well! I was actually a little surprised by how well I got around. I was only done in by steep hills! I can't believe how fast I lose my breath going up stairs and hills. Silly.

We had an amazing time and especially enjoyed visiting Lance's sister Brodine, her husband David and their 8 month baby Indigo. It was so amazing to see Lance around a baby and how comfortable he was with her. I can't wait for Lance to meet his daughter. Melts my heart. Brodine was so generous and sent us home with a HUGE suitcase filled with baby clothes. Kaylee is spoiled already. :)

Lastly, we started our labor basics class. So far I haven't freaked out! We've set up a few more baby classes including feeding, CPR, basic baby care and Lance is even taking a "dads only" class. Can you tell we're first time parents? HAHA!!

What the baby is doing: The baby is growing rapidly now and is 11 inches long with a weight of 1.25 to 1.5 pounds. The baby’s brain is developing rapidly during this period and so are the lungs and the taste buds. The main lungs are developing branches as well as special cells that produce surfactant needed to inflate the air sacs

Weird Preggo Stuff: This week: hot flashes! Since I am ALWAYS cold, being warm is almost a welcome addition. Now I can wear short sleeves in the office and not freeze.

Mind Blowing Thought of the Week: In three months, I won't have a baby growing in my belly anymore, she'll be growing in our arms!

What I miss: Staying up past 10pm!

What is exciting: I have been feeling really good. I must admit that I didn't think I would feel as well as I do. It makes me pretty happy that everything is going well and I haven't had any horrible symptoms.

Upcoming Events: Painting the baby's room and setting up the furniture.

20 Weeks!

Things are moving and grooving...or at least the baby is. :) Started feeling those "butterflies" and even had one really strong kick during an acupuncture session.

Still feeling pretty good - only minor complaints here and there, but everything has been manageable...or at least fixable. :)

The most important thing though is we found out we are having a girl!! The little thing was quite sassy during the 20 week ultrasound. She had her legs and arms all the way up over her head. At first we were worried we wouldn't be able to find out what it was, but luckily the technician was able to see through her ruse.

We also decided on a name: Kaylee. Some of you may recognize the origin? HEHE.

I also hope to update the blog more as the baby room gets set up and my belly gets bigger. :)

What the baby is doing: If you could peek inside of your belly you may even see the delicate eyebrows forming on your little one's face or the hair that is growing on the scalp. Your baby is swallowing more this week as well as breathing in the amniotic fluid. This helps prepare your little one for the time outside the womb and helps the digestive system practice functioning. Now that the ears are fully functional, your baby is now enjoying all of the uterine sounds that it hears each day, from your own heart beating to louder sounds from outside the womb

Weird Preggo Stuff: Constant flutters in my belly. It feels funny to have all these sensations from the inside out.

Mind Blowing Thought of the Week: We're having a girl! Awww!

What I miss: Being able to turn over easy...I manage it only gets worse. :)

What is exciting: Finding out the gender and being able to give her a name and an identity...going to Europe and shopping for baby clothes!

Upcoming Events: Once we get home, the remodel will be done so we can start putting together the baby room!!

17 Weeks!

Welcome back to the Bean Blog!

Things have been pretty steady as I moved into my 2nd trimester. My morning sickness has mostly disappeared. Not that it was ever that bad, but it is nice to be able to open the fridge without gagging. Of course, it has been replaced with off and on horrible sinus congestion, pressure and pain. How weird that congestion is a normal pregnancy symptom. So, I've using humidifiers, vapor rub, and a neti-pot like they've been going out of style. I'm starting to finally feel better. Or at least my ear is starting to unplug! The only other thing I am dealing with is pain in my hips. Still determining whether this is pregnancy or an injury...studies prove inconclusive. But all in all I am feeling good and have some energy back! That in and of itself is awesome!

We also managed to find the crib we wanted on craigslist for 1/2 the price. We were pretty happy about that. And I am happy to never have to shop for a crib ever again. Or at least for a long time. :)

What the baby is doing: Baby is about five inches long and more than three and a half ounces. Your baby is almost certainly listening up by now. In fact, loud noises — the dog barking, the doorbell ringing — will actually startle your baby. Your baby's eyes (which have fortunately finished their migration to the front of his or her head) are making small side-to-side movements and can even perceive some light, though the eyelids are still sealed.

Weird Preggo Stuff: Definite cravings! Avocado (although I never really cared for it before), Rice Krispies, and Little Caesar's Crazy Bread with Sauce. Weird combo.

Mind Blowing Thought of the Week: I haven't gained any more weight since my last appointment?! Nice. No complaining here!

What I miss: Non-itchy skin! Gah!

What is exciting: We made major progress on our baby room! Did a lot of organizing. Got most of the junk cleaned out. All that is left is some furniture we are selling off and a couple bookcases that are going to stay in there. I've attached some before and after pictures as well as a picture of the horrible plaster on the walls. (Be warned though, the pictures make us look like we're auditioning for the TV Show Hoarders!)

Upcoming Events: Picking out our new tile, carpet and flooring! Starting the official 4 week countdown to finding out the gender of our baby!
