28 Weeks!

Hello Again!

Well, we are finally into our third trimester! It's amazing how fast it snuck up!

We finished our labor preparation classes at the end of April. Lance has been practicing his massage techniques for the delivery room...not that I mind! We also took a child and infant CPR class. We hope to never have to use it, but it gives us sound of mind at least!

Kaylee has definitely been increasing her movements. Now I get jabs, kicks, bounces, and punches. I can see the movements from the outside too, which is cool and crazy at the same time. My stomach has been taken over!

I passed my glucose screening with flying colors. The glucola wasn't too bad...it reminded me of those Hawaiian Hi-C drinks...super sugary fake juice. Of course, I had it first thing in the morning on an empty stomach and it took several hours before they could peel me off the ceiling. WHEEE!! My iron levels also checked out - apparently the "best they've ever seen". I don't know how that is, but I'll take it!

Lastly, Lance and I picked up the rest of the furniture for the baby room - a toy chest and changing table. I can't wait until the room is painted and we can set it all up!

What the baby is doing: By this week, your baby weighs two and a quarter pounds (like a Chinese cabbage) and measures 14.8 inches from the top of her head to her heels. She can blink her eyes, which now sport lashes. With her eyesight developing, she may be able to see the light that filters in through your womb. She's also developing billions of neurons in her brain and adding more body fat in preparation for life in the outside world

Weird Preggo Stuff: Suddenly I hit 7 months and I can't get comfy. Sitting, laying, sleeping. I just feel these weird pressures all over. Hopefully I'll come up with a good position for the next couple months.

Mind Blowing Thought of the Week: My coworker was chaperoning her daughter's school field trip and it hit me: WE'RE going to be able to chaperone Kaylee's field trips! It was one of the first moments when I realized that I was going to be a parent. Not just have a baby, but be a MOM.

What I miss: Drinking as much caffeine as I needed or wanted in a day.

What is exciting: The weather is finally getting nice and I feel so much more energetic!

Upcoming Events: My first baby shower! I am really excited!! :)

24 weeks!

Well the bean is now an international traveller. We made it to Europe and back and did pretty well! I was actually a little surprised by how well I got around. I was only done in by steep hills! I can't believe how fast I lose my breath going up stairs and hills. Silly.

We had an amazing time and especially enjoyed visiting Lance's sister Brodine, her husband David and their 8 month baby Indigo. It was so amazing to see Lance around a baby and how comfortable he was with her. I can't wait for Lance to meet his daughter. Melts my heart. Brodine was so generous and sent us home with a HUGE suitcase filled with baby clothes. Kaylee is spoiled already. :)

Lastly, we started our labor basics class. So far I haven't freaked out! We've set up a few more baby classes including feeding, CPR, basic baby care and Lance is even taking a "dads only" class. Can you tell we're first time parents? HAHA!!

What the baby is doing: The baby is growing rapidly now and is 11 inches long with a weight of 1.25 to 1.5 pounds. The baby’s brain is developing rapidly during this period and so are the lungs and the taste buds. The main lungs are developing branches as well as special cells that produce surfactant needed to inflate the air sacs

Weird Preggo Stuff: This week: hot flashes! Since I am ALWAYS cold, being warm is almost a welcome addition. Now I can wear short sleeves in the office and not freeze.

Mind Blowing Thought of the Week: In three months, I won't have a baby growing in my belly anymore, she'll be growing in our arms!

What I miss: Staying up past 10pm!

What is exciting: I have been feeling really good. I must admit that I didn't think I would feel as well as I do. It makes me pretty happy that everything is going well and I haven't had any horrible symptoms.

Upcoming Events: Painting the baby's room and setting up the furniture.

20 Weeks!

Things are moving and grooving...or at least the baby is. :) Started feeling those "butterflies" and even had one really strong kick during an acupuncture session.

Still feeling pretty good - only minor complaints here and there, but everything has been manageable...or at least fixable. :)

The most important thing though is we found out we are having a girl!! The little thing was quite sassy during the 20 week ultrasound. She had her legs and arms all the way up over her head. At first we were worried we wouldn't be able to find out what it was, but luckily the technician was able to see through her ruse.

We also decided on a name: Kaylee. Some of you may recognize the origin? HEHE.

I also hope to update the blog more as the baby room gets set up and my belly gets bigger. :)

What the baby is doing: If you could peek inside of your belly you may even see the delicate eyebrows forming on your little one's face or the hair that is growing on the scalp. Your baby is swallowing more this week as well as breathing in the amniotic fluid. This helps prepare your little one for the time outside the womb and helps the digestive system practice functioning. Now that the ears are fully functional, your baby is now enjoying all of the uterine sounds that it hears each day, from your own heart beating to louder sounds from outside the womb

Weird Preggo Stuff: Constant flutters in my belly. It feels funny to have all these sensations from the inside out.

Mind Blowing Thought of the Week: We're having a girl! Awww!

What I miss: Being able to turn over easy...I manage it only gets worse. :)

What is exciting: Finding out the gender and being able to give her a name and an identity...going to Europe and shopping for baby clothes!

Upcoming Events: Once we get home, the remodel will be done so we can start putting together the baby room!!

17 Weeks!

Welcome back to the Bean Blog!

Things have been pretty steady as I moved into my 2nd trimester. My morning sickness has mostly disappeared. Not that it was ever that bad, but it is nice to be able to open the fridge without gagging. Of course, it has been replaced with off and on horrible sinus congestion, pressure and pain. How weird that congestion is a normal pregnancy symptom. So, I've using humidifiers, vapor rub, and a neti-pot like they've been going out of style. I'm starting to finally feel better. Or at least my ear is starting to unplug! The only other thing I am dealing with is pain in my hips. Still determining whether this is pregnancy or an injury...studies prove inconclusive. But all in all I am feeling good and have some energy back! That in and of itself is awesome!

We also managed to find the crib we wanted on craigslist for 1/2 the price. We were pretty happy about that. And I am happy to never have to shop for a crib ever again. Or at least for a long time. :)

What the baby is doing: Baby is about five inches long and more than three and a half ounces. Your baby is almost certainly listening up by now. In fact, loud noises — the dog barking, the doorbell ringing — will actually startle your baby. Your baby's eyes (which have fortunately finished their migration to the front of his or her head) are making small side-to-side movements and can even perceive some light, though the eyelids are still sealed.

Weird Preggo Stuff: Definite cravings! Avocado (although I never really cared for it before), Rice Krispies, and Little Caesar's Crazy Bread with Sauce. Weird combo.

Mind Blowing Thought of the Week: I haven't gained any more weight since my last appointment?! Nice. No complaining here!

What I miss: Non-itchy skin! Gah!

What is exciting: We made major progress on our baby room! Did a lot of organizing. Got most of the junk cleaned out. All that is left is some furniture we are selling off and a couple bookcases that are going to stay in there. I've attached some before and after pictures as well as a picture of the horrible plaster on the walls. (Be warned though, the pictures make us look like we're auditioning for the TV Show Hoarders!)

Upcoming Events: Picking out our new tile, carpet and flooring! Starting the official 4 week countdown to finding out the gender of our baby!

13 Weeks

Very Exciting Week!

The bean and I had a lot of adventure this week...we took a trip to Colorado to visit Auntie Niki. The baby sure did enjoy the fresh mountain air! Niki took the baby on its hike in the Rockies. Well, "hike" may be a bit of an overstatement, but it was a beautiful walk around a couple of frozen lakes.

We also had our 13 week appointment. So far the baby and I are "textbook", which is great to hear. We had some testing for Down's syndrome, which included another ultrasound. While we weren't too worried about anything being wrong with the baby, we did like the idea of another ultrasound. It is really looking like a baby now! (S)he had their legs crossed and was just chillin' in the womb. So cute. (I've attached a picture above, along with my belly shot. I am definitely an "early shower"!!)

What the baby is doing: By 13 weeks pregnant your baby's intestines are working on maturing and your baby's tiny pancreas is working hard to produce insulin. This will help your baby regulate her blood sugar levels in the months and years following delivery. During pregnancy week 13 your baby's eyes also start to move closer to the center of your baby's head

Weird Preggo Stuff: I've been craving ketchup. I've been eating fries just so I can have something to go with the ketchup.

Mind Blowing Thought of the Week: I only gained 8 pounds in my first trimester?! Awesome.

What I miss: Beer/Wine Tasting...I missed out on some good opportunities in Colorado...no tapping the Rockies with Coors for me!

What is exciting: Seeing the baby on the ultrasound, crib shopping.

Upcoming Events: Picking out nursery furniture and remodel supplies!

12 Weeks!

This week has been very eventful:

- I had my first ever acupuncture appointment (amazing, amazing, amazing)

- Lance's uncle Larry is a contractor and came over to assess the areas we want to remodel. Mostly, the bathroom and the baby room. The baby room has this incredibly ugly plastering on the wall. It will need to be cut out and re-sheetrocked. I will post pictures of the progress, but our baby will have a beautiful room instead of a hideous Trading Spaces gone wrong monstrosity.

- We picked out the baby bedding!! I am really excited. I want to have a really cheery, happy feeling in the room. I've included a picture above.

- We started crib shopping. Sigh. It is a bit overwhelming and we don't want to spend too much but we don't want to sacrifice quality either.

What the baby is doing: Developing reflexes: fingers will soon begin to open and close, toes will curl, eye muscles will clench, and mouth will make sucking movements. From crown to rump, baby is just over 2 inches long (about the size of a lime) and weighs half an ounce

Weird Preggo Stuff: Feeling pretty good this week, no nausea. But my hip and SI joint have been bothering me. I'm hoping it is just over extension and not a sign of things to come.

Mind Blowing Thought of the Week: This ugly junk room will soon be where my child sleeps.

What I miss: Sushi.

What is exciting: Having a plan for the baby room, finally sleep like a normal person this week

Upcoming Events: Visiting Niki in Colorado, doctor's appointment next Thursday.

First Post! - 11 weeks!

Welcome to the Bean Blog!

My friend Maddie has a blog on her pregnancy progress and I think it is a such a neat idea that I am copying her!

The basics so far:

We found out we were pregnant Nov. 25th - just in time for the Holidays! We had our first doctor's appointment Dec. 29th. Everything checked out just fine: the heartrate was 164 bpm and the little bean was super active. (S)he was waving to us and bouncing around. Definitely Lance's child - HAHA!

I have been feeling pretty good - assuming I get enough sleep. And there is never enough sleep. ;)

Week: 11

Weird Preggo Stuff: I am tired all the time, but can't sleep. Go figure! Also, I can't open the refrigerator without holding my breath. The smell makes me gag. And we cleaned it out!

Mind Blowing Thought of the Week: We got our first baby purchase in the mail today: a Kelty Wallaby baby carrier. I was trying it on and the thought hit me that soon I will actually be putting a baby in there!

What I miss: Champagne on New Year's Eve. Not being the assumed designated driver.

What is exciting: I know I will regret saying this, but wearing maternity clothes! Finally I can let the tummy hang out!

Upcoming Events: Visiting Colorado for the weekend, cleaning out the room for the nursery.
